You need to get Tobra peaks and troughs done to make sure
that you are getting the proper level of this drug, and not getting too high a
dose. This is done with blood tests at specific times before and after a
dose. This can sometimes be done with just a finger stick. These
should not be done through an IV line or port through which Tobra is infused, as
this may make the results inaccurate. (Added May 13, 2004)
Third generation cephalosporin. Offers improved
activity against most gram-negative enteric bacteria, particularly Pseudomonas
aeruginosa. Most group B Streptococci and Strep. pneumoniae, all Listeria
and enterococci are resistant.
